ExpenseLog · 29 October 2026
ExpenseLog is a personal ledger. It keeps your expenses in a Google Drive folder that you choose. This page explains what the app reads and where it is stored.
Account
Sign-in uses your Google account. ExpenseLog receives your email address and display name so it can open the same book on this browser. The app asks only for access to files it creates and to the Drive folder you select. It does not read the rest of your Drive.
The ledger
Each entry can include a date, amount, description, category, merchant, and receipt files (photos or PDFs). Categories and merchants are names you create. These records are written to a spreadsheet in your chosen folder, with one sheet for each year. Receipts for a year are stored in a folder of that year, inside the same Drive folder.
A copy of the ledger, and receipts you have opened, are kept in this browser so the book can open offline. Edits made offline are sent to Drive when the browser is online again.
Receipt reading
If you save a Gemini API key and ask ExpenseLog to read a receipt, that image or PDF is sent to Google Gemini to suggest a date, amount, description, category, and merchant. The key stays in this browser. ExpenseLog does not store it in Drive.
Hosting
The website files are served from Firebase Hosting. Your ledger and receipts are not stored on that host. They stay in your Google Drive and in this browser.
Deleting data
You can delete an expense in the app. You can also delete the Drive folder, the spreadsheet, or a receipt file in Google Drive. Signing out leaves the local copy on this browser for the same Google account. Clearing this site’s data in the browser removes that copy.
